The chainsaw head does not operate without the pole attached, however this listing includes only the chainsaw attachment, pole not included.
Yes, only the WA0308 hedge trimmer attachment is compatible with the pole. The WG252 pole hedge trimmer utilizes the same pole that is a part of the WG349. The chainsaw attachment is also sold separately as WA0307.
