Nitro Circular Saw: Professional Power, Cordless Convenience

Meet The WORX Nitro Circular Saw

By Joseph Truini

Battery-powered circular saws have been around for more than 20 years, but most lack the power and run-time to be taken seriously. That all changed when WORX introduced the Nitro 20-volt Power Share Pro Circular Saw.

This full-size, high-performance 7¼-inch cordless saw is designed for use by professional contractors and serious DIYers. After spending two days in my workshop testing the Nitro, I discovered that it has the raw cutting power to compete not only with every battery-powered circular saw on the market, but it can also tackle jobs typically reserved only for corded electric saws. For example, I used the Nitro to rip some mahogany decking, and it sliced through the 1-inch-thick rock-hard boards with ease. I also made several crosscuts through a dense 2-inch-thick LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber) beam without so much as a hiccup.

The Nitro Difference

The Nitro is packed with pro features, but its unparalleled power and performance come from its perfectly matched motor and battery. It’s driven by a highly efficient 6,100-rpm brushless motor that produces 25 percent more power and an amazing 50 percent more run-time than traditional brushed motors. (To learn more about the brushless motors, click here.)

Powering the brushless motor is the WORX 20-volt Power Share Pro battery. This 4.0 amp-hour, lithium-ion rechargeable pack features an intelligent battery-management system that’s equipped with unique cell-cooling technology that enhances both tool performance and battery run-time. Each lithium-ion cell within the battery is wrapped in resilient thermoplastic that dissipates heat, provides impact protection, and maximizes power. And the Nitro’s Power Share Pro battery is compatible with more than 35 WORX 20-volt lawn and garden tools.

Other Nitro features include:

  • 2 9/16 inch depth of cut at 90° and 1-13/16 in. at 45º
  • Battery fuel gauge
  • Easy-to-use lever for adjusting depth of cut
  • Front-mounted adjustment knob for setting bevel cuts from 0 to 57°
  • Rubber over-mold grip on both rear and front handles
  • On-board blade wrench and spindle lock for fast blade changes
  • Bright LED worklight that illuminates the cut line

The WORX Nitro 20-volt Power Share Pro Circular Saw (WX520L, $199.99) comes complete with one 4.0 amp-hour battery, two-hour battery charger, and 24-tooth carbide-tipped blade for ripping and crosscutting and zippered storage bag. It’s available at worx.com and Amazon. A bare tool version is also available (WX520L.9, $129.99), minus the battery and charger.
