Bad news, good newsI recently purchased the new 22" hedge trimmer. This is the third hedge trimmer that I have purchased from Worx. This review discusses the problem I had with the first two trimmers and my initial impressions of the third unit.
The first two were the previous 20" model. Both units had been dropped and the plastic housing broke where the handle attached. I viewed the fact that both units broke at the same location as being a design problem with the plastic housing, but I really liked the unit's cordless operation and light weight (I used them mainly to cut down perennials and ornamental grasses during the winter). I looked at trimmers from other manufactureres, but couldn't find anything at a comparable price and would have needed to use a different battery design (I have several other cordless Worx tools and like being able to use the same batteries in all of them). I looked at the Worx website to see what it would cost to buy another trimmer and discovered that they had come out with a new design with a slightly longer blade and decided to buy it in the hope that the "design flaw" with the plastic housing had been corrected.
When the box came, the first thing that I noticed was that the new trimmer has not only a longer blade, but also a much nicer cutting edge. The blade on the first two trimmers was pretty basic and looked like something that had been used to keep the price down. The blade on the new trimmer looks much more like something that is designed to cut efficiently, and when I first used it I immediately could tell that its cutting ability was much better than the previous model. Whereas the older model could not cleanly cut a branch over about 1/4" in diameter, the new on can cleanly cut (rather than shred) a 1/2" branch. In fact, the performance of the new model is so much better that I'm almost glad the previous trimmer had broken so that I had an excuse to buy the new one!
The down side of the new design is that the motor housing is too narrow to easily fit in the wall storage hangers that Worx sold several years ago If you position it just right, it will catch on the hanger but just barely. I need see if I can jerry-rig the hanger to work better.
Despite this problem, however, I'm delighted with the new trimmer and wanted to let others know about the improved cutting blade, which isn't mentioned in the description on the Worx website.

Simple, light and versatileNever going back to a corded hedge trimmer. Even with the battery it is lighter than the corded Black & Decker I was using.
