Step-by-Step Instructions

Steps

1. Start by “hunting” down those leftover Easter eggs and setting up your workspace.

2. Decide on which paint colors you’d like to use and pour some into a dish. (paper plates also make great painter’s palettes!) Then, paint the pointier side of the eggs using thin light coats. Apply enough coats to fully cover any easter egg color and allow them to dry.

3. Next, pick a few eggs to add some gold leaf to and set aside. Working on one egg at a time, add a couple of dabs of glue and apply the gold leaf. We did small sections here to make sure that the glue didn’t dry between applications.

4. Once all the gold leaf has been added and the glue has dried, carefully brush off any excess leaf with your fingers or a dry paintbrush.

5. Now, power up the MakerX glue gun and grab the twine. Working in small sections, apply a thin line of glue to the egg (at or just below the seam) and attach the twine.

6. Continue spiraling around the egg, adding a thin layer of glue followed by the twine until the whole top of the “acorn” has been covered.

7. Then, cut the branches into half-inch sections. ( I took my girls on a little scavenger hunt to look for branches and twigs that we could use for this project. It was a great way to spend some quality time together outside enjoying the beautiful Fall weather!)

8. Power up that glue gun again and add a tiny dab of glue to the top of each acorn and secure a piece of twig to create the stem.

9. That’s it! Such an easy and fun project for the whole family. Add your new “acorns” to a Fall centerpiece and wow all of those Holiday guests with your latest MAKERX DIY creations!
