Why Choose a Corded Electric Chainsaw or Pole Saw?

When you need heavy duty cutting power around the yard, what should a homeowner purchase? You need to buy a chainsaw and/or pole saw, but you must also decide how the saw is going to be powered. There are three basic options to choose from, including a gas-powered chainsaw, a battery-operated cordless chainsaw, or a corded electric chainsaw. Below are the pros and cons of each to help you decide which is right for you:

  • Electric Chainsaw with Cord: The ideal situation for an electric corded chainsaw or pole saw is when you have a smaller property where all the cutting you need to do is within reach of an outdoor electrical outlet with the use of an extension cord to reach the outer limits of your work area. You never have to worry about running out of power before the job is done as you would when using a battery-operated cordless chainsaw. You also won’t need to keep track of batteries, chargers, or remembering if the battery has been charged or not. You also avoid all the noise and pollution of a gas-powered chainsaw, getting the right mix of gas and oil if needed, not to mention the fire hazard of storing gasoline near your home or the hassle of running to fill up your gas can when needed.
  • Cordless Chainsaw (battery-powered): With a battery-powered chainsaw or pole saw, you’re freed up to take your saws wherever you want without worrying about having an electrical outlet nearby, dealing with extension cords, or trying to work around a cord while on the job. Limitations come in the form of how much battery power you have, runtime, recharging batteries, and keeping track of your battery charger when you need it. If you forget to charge up, your saws may not be ready when you are.
  • Gas-Powered Chainsaw: Electric tools have become increasingly popular, whether corded or cordless, because they make their gas-powered counterparts look and feel outdated. They’re noisy and emit all kinds of nasty pollution that not only lowers air quality but also contributes to global warming and climate change. You also must make sure you have gas on-hand, as well as getting the right mix of gas and oil required by many of them. Storing gasoline in or around your home or garage is a fire hazard. The downsides to gas-powered chainsaws seem to far outweigh any benefits.

With that information, you should be able to choose which category of chainsaws is best suited to meet your needs. If you decide to go with a corded electric chainsaw or pole saw, Worx has you covered.

The Right Electric Chainsaw for Each Kind of Job

With four different models of electric chainsaws and an electric pole saw, Worx has the perfect chainsaw for your needs. Here’s the product lineup:

JawSaw 5 Amp Electric Chainsaw (WG307): When you’re looking for something that can handle sawing branches up to 4 inches thick and is designed to be much more user-friendly than a traditional chainsaw, the Worx JawSaw is the way to go. The cutting bar and chain are fully inside the jaws, which are also armed with steel teeth to hold the branch securely in place as you cut through it. The patented auto-tension feature keeps the tension right where it needs to be without you needing to do anything. This tool only weighs 8.1 pounds, which is about the same as a gallon of milk. The weight is ergonomically balanced, and the jaw design also helps support the weight of the tool to make cutting even safer and easier.

8 Amp Electric 14" Chainsaw (WG305.1): This model has our patented auto-tension chain system, easy prime oil pump and level indicator for simple maintenance and weighs in at only 6.6 pounds. The 14” bar allows for a total cutting capacity of nearly 28”.

5 Amp Electric 16" Chainsaw (WG303.1): All the same features as the above model along with built-in chain brake and greater capacity. Weighing in at 11 pounds, cutting capacity is nearly 32”. The chain has 57 links, 3/8-inch pitch, a gauge of 0.05 inches, and can take any type of bar and chain oil (6.76-ounce oil reservoir with level indicator).

15 Amp Electric 18" Chainsaw (WG304.1): All the same features as the above model along with built-in chain brake and greater capacity. Weighing in at 11.2 pounds, cutting capacity for standing trees is nearly 36”. The chain has 63 links, 3/8-inch pitch, a gauge of 0.05 inches, and can take any type of bar and chain oil (6.76-ounce oil reservoir with level indicator).

8 Amp Electric 10" Pole Saw (WG309): Like our other chainsaws, this model features a tool-free chain tension system, automatic oil pump, and oil level indicator. The best part is that this saw can be used as a typical handheld chainsaw, or attach the pole and use it as a pole saw. The eight-foot extension pole provides 10 feet of reach and tool-less installation. Overall weight is just ten pounds. The chain has 42 links, 3/8-inch pitch, a gauge of 0.05 inches, and can take any type of bar and chain oil (4.06-ounce oil reservoir with level indicator).
